A Noob question about signet making signet Rings

okay one of my big projects is I want to make a signet ring my idea is to make a simple ring using ring wizard and i have a picture that i want as my symbol so my question is this

can i use the Heighfield by colors and the slop tool like in the Tutorial but the catch is the image must be in the negatives like its being engraved into the ring not projecting out like in the tutorial

cause I make it but my impression inst there i tried using bolean tool but that didn't help if I am going about this all the wrong way could someone please just point me in the right direction

hello David Sevilla

i cant seem to send you a private message my email is lordtofu1@yahoo.com please email me that video i watched it loved i can't seem to download it and i know I ll watch it like 10 times which would really eat away at my internet cap please if you don't mind email it to me, awesome video

Hey David Sevilla is there any chance of you putting the videos where i can download them i have only watch one of them my internet is crap,

normally i just download the video off the internet and watch them as i go along , but i cant seem to download them from that website . I really like what i have seen and I am not trying to sound ungrateful you really nailed what i was trying to do with the ring i just need to some how get these files

okay i got a new problem i manged to download the vids and start working with them to make a ring got to the point where i use the command Raster2vector load the image but its got lines and wont work ?

If you have the time your better off drawing the curves from scratch. The curves will be cleaner. So first type picture frame in command line choose the dragon image from your folder and finally use your curve tools to trace the dragon. Once you have traced and all curves are closed you can extrude and finally do a boolean difference. I hope this helps

thanks man you have really been a great help

anytime

Okay boolean difference is killing me i made a signet ring with fish design the first took not a problem imported the file again to do another one and i get Boolean difference failed.

what gets me is it work for one of them now i try to do three it fails ,i want to throw my pc ......

http://screencast.com/t/DageyO9yRDS  check out this image it apears that some of the fishes when they were modeled either by extusion or by surface modeling I dont know wich way you made them.  Some of the edges are not completely closed.  When you trouble shoot booleans do on piece at a time so you know wich piece is the one giving you problems.  I am pretty sure you can fix this on your own.  If you cant let me know and I'll send you the file already fixed.  Good luck.

It appears you have a nake edge I think the problem is in your curves.  Like I told you before you should make sure your curves are nice and clean and rebuild if necessary.  So when you extrude you have nice surfaces.
