I made a ring using the sweep 2 rail function. The ring is all exterior surface, hollow, not solid. How can I make it a solid object so I can perform some additional boolean operations on it?

Thanx for the directions, I didn't know how to check for naked edges prior to your post.

Pat's latest remarks are worth being highlighted: Design without open edges, check for them early and often.

I recommend showing naked edges as default in shaded mode. Go to Tools>Options>Rhino Options>Appearance>Advanced Settings>Shaded>Objects>Surfaces and select "Use single color for all naked edges" in "Edge Color Usage", then select a color (pink) for these. From then on, in shaded mode, you'll immediately have ugly pink lines whenever you create a naked edge. I find it a motivating goal to avoid them, or get rid of them immediately.

to check for naked edges ...go to the menu bar, analyze, edge tools, show edges..you will also see the join naked edges tab ...try not to use it!.... but go ahead and try it, you will see it will not work on your model... so try and build em right! good luck and let us know if you have any other problems!

All my past models have been a combination of solid pipes, that follow a curve, or pieces cut out of an extruded surface. So none of my past models have had naked edges as they were solid all the way through. This ring was easier to try by using the sweeping function, NOT!!! It may take more time but I think I will stick with the method that has been working for me.

carlton, are you going to mill your ring?

Yes, on my newly operational Taig mill.

here you go...I scaled it down before milling, just wanted to see the finished wax after all the repair was done

That was quick, what speed do you have your mill running at?

I has a few cz's laying around to see the fit but nit enough to go all the way around...I ran the mill a liittle slow 1000mm per min x,travel with 7000 rpm you could go 1200mm per min if you want , no need to increase the rpms...I used a .010, 10 deg tapered ball bit probably took around 30 40 min I didn't time it 

Again, I am new to this, the maximum speed I set using Deskproto is 500mm per min, and I don't think Mach 3 will let me go above 500mm per min either. What software are you using?

that's weird that the software won't let you type in a higher speed, what's the top end speeds of your mill, 500 mm per min is pretty slow I would think it is faster then that...I used protowizard to mill this one and milled it on the mdx40
