I am trying to make a sort of bar with a rectangular base, and at one extremity a triangle, at the other another triangle same width, but shorter. I tried various extrusion possibilities, unsuccessfully. Anybody an idea ? Thanks for your help !

Permalink Reply by Veronique Theisler on May 3, 2012 at 9:13pm Hello Andreas and Pat,
Thank you for your brainstorming, and sorry for not answering before. I came back late and tried Andreas suggestion with rectangles ... which turned into simple lines... and yes I confirm, what Andreas drew is exactly what I am trying to do. Trouble is I am new to Rhino, and do not know yet all commands. So 2 more questions : in which menus do I find the Sweep2, loft and srf commands. I am working on the french version and need to translate ! Thank you so much to you both for your help. Veronique

Pat, thanks for making me look silly ;) [[no harm taken]] This was what I meant when I wrote "rectangles": "rectangular surfaces". Memo to myself: Mind your vocabulary.
I like your initial Loft suggestion. It's much faster to do than my Sweep2. And faster that drawing surfaces as well. 1st price goes to you.
It seems you like these brain-teasers as much as I do. First problem: Understand the problem.
Cheers,
Andreas
Permalink Reply by pat schmidt on May 3, 2012 at 9:52pm no problem....from the surface menu...use the surface from 3-4 point corner points,or surf from 3-4 edge curves,or surf from planner curves any will work all are just as fast..sometimes it's hard to explain what one is trying to build a picture is always better ...good luck
Permalink Reply by Veronique Theisler on May 14, 2012 at 11:05am Thank you Andreas for your precious suggestions. Indeed, it is easier to just type, and great to use the _before ! Thanks to your advices and to Pat's ones, I made what I was trying to do !

Hi Veronique,
Sorry for my rather careless "rectangle". It was too obvious to me that we need a surface here.
For the french equivalents, I can't help. Nor for the menu names. I just don't use the menus, but just type in the name of the command. So I can't even give you an indication where to look.
Good news is that if someone like Pat (or me) throws a command name at you, you can prepend it with an underscore, and it will work, even if you are running a french Rhino.
So Sweep2 becomes _Sweep2, Loft becomes _Loft etc. And even better: Rhino ignores capital or small letter as well, so you could equally well write _loft or _LoFt or _LOFT or _lOFt or whatever.
Many people have found that typing a command is far more easier and faster than searching the menus or the icon tray.
For Pat's "srf from 3 - 4 points" command, I would use _SrfPt, but Pat may have had something different in mind.
Regarding your "[I] do not know yet all commands" : forget it. There are just too many. And you will perfectly well live a happy and prosperous life with just a couple of them.
