I can see that rendering, especially white gold is going to take some time to master. This is a custom band for a customers engagement ring. I rendered her engagement ring from photos and measurements as an exercise. She requested round diamonds, mill-grain edge in a 4mm wide band, from a design aspect this offers some challenges but I think this works.

... maybe I should print them out to 1:1 scale and hope they forgot their reading glasses.
Thanks Pat, I appreciate the feedback and Humor.
Comment by pat schmidt on May 10, 2012 at 4:44am I seen that, but the ring looks good....I kinda just do some basic renders and go on from there, maybe I'll make it maybe I won't but I really don't have the time to play around with trying to get a knockout render I get what I can get and that's about it...after all to me the render is to show the customer and they know it's a render and not a photo anyway...how about the customers that say after you finished ..."hey my colored gemstones don't look anything like the ones in picture you showed me"...kust kidding hope you have a sence of humor...

I would have liked to channel set some princess cuts but the customer wanted rounds, the prongs fill that open area that channel setting would have left and they also tie into the Millgrain.Catch the reflection of the milligrain I had to angle the perspective to try to eliminate some of that. I've been a Goldsmith for 35 years and I can't wait to get my first project milled and cast. I will post an "actual" picture then, I'm getting a little tired of HD Renderings, I feel like putting them in Photo Shop to virtually skuff them up. ;)

Comment by pat schmidt on May 10, 2012 at 2:12am nice simple one for practice ...It's always good to look at other pieces and analyze how they were made and try to make them for practice....as far as the rendering looks good to me although I from the school of 'we're making jewelry not photos'..I wouldn't critique anything except the band looks like the diamonds are sort of channel set and have prongs also but if that's the way it is then that's the way it is
note:I see alot of renderings but I hardly see any jewelry or waxes I'd like to see more real jewelry or waxws if anyone is making any these days
