I don't have experience in ProtoWizard or MadCam. I used Deskproto, and it is a good solutions for CAM in jewelry market, it process really fast.

Thank you for pointing out the basic concepts. I guess I'm more comfortable with the first way of modelling and it is just a matter of thinking outside the comfort zone. ..And your the guide line is a big help.
